How to Make a Storage Ottoman Cover (Sew)

This tutorial will show you how to make a storage ottoman cover for the top and bottom.

Materials for Making a Top Fabric Cover for a Storage Ottoman

These measurements are for a top cover that measure 35″(L) x 17″(W) x 4″(H)

White Marking Pencil- my fabric has black backing

Pins

Fabric:

(1) 37″ x 19″

(2) 37″ x 16″

(2) 19″ x 6″

Directions for Making a Top Fabric Cover for a Storage Ottoman

1. Draw a rectangle 35″ x 17″ on the 37″ x 19″ fabric with a marking pencil.

2. Draw two parallel lines that are 35″ apart on the 37″ x 16″pieces of fabric and two parallel lines 17″ apart on the 19″ x 16″ pieces of fabrics.

Tip: The drawn lines will serve as a guide for sewing.

3. Lay the 37″ x 6″ fabric face up on a flat surface. Place the 37″ x 19″ fabric face down on top and pin together. Sew on the 35″ line. Repeat on the opposite end of the 37″x 19″ fabric.

4. Lay the 19″ x 6″ fabric face up on a flat surface. Place the 37″ x 19″ fabric face down on top with the flaps out. Pin and sew on the 17″ line. Repeat on the opposite end of the 37″ x 19″ fabric.

5. Pin the corners together and start sewing, leaving 2″ of fabric free and moving towards the corner where the two drawn lines meet. Cut the excess fabric.

Materials for Making a Bottom Fabric Cover for a Storage Ottoman

Fabric:

(2) 37″ x 16″

(2) 19″ x 16″

Directions for Making a Bottom Fabric Cover for a Storage Ottoman

1. Draw two parallel lines 35″ apart on the 37″ x 16″ fabrics and draw two parallel lines 17″ apart on the 19″ x 16″ fabrics with a marking pencil.

2. Lay one of the 37″ x 16″ fabric face up and place one of the 19″ x 16″ fabric on top face down. Line the two drawn lines together, pin, and sew along the line. Remove the pins and repeat on the other end of the 37″ x 16″ fabric. Now you should have three pieces sewn together.

3. Lay the other 37″ x 16″ fabric face down on one of the 19x 16″ fabric. Pin and sew together.

4. Lastly, sew the free end of the 37″ x 16″ fabric to the free end of the 19 x 16″ fabric. Now all four pieces of fabric should be sewn together. Cut the excess fabric.
